Vintage or used? The debate continues...

Something I'm committed to with regard my all new Polyvore account is only featuring items I already own or, if not, items it seems to me conceivable I might be find it practical to purchase - i.e. items I might find an occasion to wear and that aren't so outrageously expensive, there's absolutely no way on earth that I'd ever be inspired to purchase them. It is for this reason that I don't use a lot of the so-called 'featured' items; S$1,400 for an Oscar de la Renta tie-neck blouse stretches so far beyond my humble means, the words 'totally reckless splurge' couldn't begin to cover it. Apart from the fact that I'd be unlikely to wear it in Singapore, it's possible that I might be persuaded to shell out the necessary for this Tommy Hilfiger buffalo plaid mini though, provided it didn't turn out to be any more than a couple of inches above the knee that is.
This is despite my mother having expressed surprise at my choosing to wear a mini skirt during a visit to London a whole seven or eight years ago. Yes, she really did use the words 'at your age' and then, when I asked if she felt the skirt I was wearing was too short to look nice, added 'Well, I suppose if you still have the legs...' Whether she felt I did still have the legs or not, she failed to actually say, thus, one of the things I'm hoping to get around to in the not too distant future is posting a few pictures of the real life me actually wearing a couple of outfits that are at least similar to some of the sets I've been featuring here, and maybe also of my still mini-skirted and fabulous sister-in-law, just to prove that there are plenty of grown up women out there who continue to look perfectly cool in short skirts. Meanwhile, the items in this set that I really wanted to draw attention to are the Elsa Peretti star fish earrings, a classic design still available from Tiffany & Co. Once again, I wonder whether the pair my kids' Dad bought me probably 18 or maybe even 20 years ago now qualify as vintage or as used. Thus far, the most amusing distinction I've managed to find is taken from a discussion in one of eBay's many, many discussion groups. |
