Even with the explosion of the Internet and a plethora of blogs written by women in their 40s and above, finding inspiration remains a challenge. Read on to find out why.
Here are three images of Terrah H, a 'mature' model working with Ford Models. Out of the different outfits that she's wearing, I totally love this first one and can imagine wearing it although maybe not for any more than another five years or so. My upper arms just aren't as toned as they used to be and - here's the shocking truth of the matter - I can't seem to be sufficiently bothered about that to do anything more than a very few bicep curls using my grocery bags as weights.
This next image is nowhere nearly as inspiring, in my opinion. The woman in the picture above could be on her way to a barbeque party or a country pub. Meanwhile, even without the caption 'Signature Comfort', I feel that the woman in this second photograph might be on her way to deliver a birthday present to a 10-year-old - i.e. not a mere toddler - grandchild.
This final picture adds a further decade to the one in the middle, I'd say. Once again, the caption doesn't help very much, but 'relaxed style and comfort' doesn't have to make you look as if you're expecting to be invited not to a grandchild's birthday party but to his or her wedding. Terrah manages to look amazing even in this outfit, but, unlike in the first picture, the clothes do absolute nothing for her; its she who is doing something for the clothes.
Herein lies the problem with regard figuring out what to wear as we get older, in my experience; instead of designing fully glamourous clothes for mature figures, designers as well as marketeers seem to prefer to find themselves a fully glamourous mature women who won't look so unspeakably ghastly in their frumpy-looking clothes that sales will drop off to the exact point where really they should - i.e. no sales at all!
I will continue to look for other fantastic looking women to feature, or I will be delighted to receive readers' suggestions. Meanwhile, I'm off to experiment with creating a few more funky-looking outfits out of my latest wish list items.
